The Roam 5G uses a superfast 5G mobile internet router to create a WiFi hotspot in your vehicle. The 5G 4 x 4  antenna significantly improves the reception of the signal and is omnidirectional, so it will perform wherever you are and without adjustment. Simply fit and forget. Most antennas on the market are 2 x 2, with our 4 x 4 antenna you will have full access to the 5G mobile internet speeds available when you have coverage. The Roam 5G kit will also connect to existing WiFi connections (such as your home) and repeat the signal. Do I need a SIM card? Yes you will. You have several options available: 1. All Maxview Roam systems come with a Maxview SIM pre-inserted into the router. This has unlimited data for £19.99 a month. You will have a QR code on the router for activation and there should also be a leaflet with a QR code eSIM. 2. eSIM – A electronic SIM which can be downloaded to your router without the need for a physical SIM card. Most network providers these days offer an eSIM version of their plans, saving you a trip to the shop. 3. Other physical SIM cards from other network providers. Since you are not locked into our Maxview SIM, you can use any other network such as EE or 3. If you are streaming a lot then it is recommended you have a high data package, or unlimited data. With app control Our specially designed app can be used to easily monitor the usage or change settings on the router, wherever you are in the vehicle. This eliminates the need to go inside your cupboard to check a screen or LEDs on the router. Who is it For? Yes you absolutely can! The Roam 5G system will keep you connected to all your favourite shows in rural and remote areas, as long as you have a subscription or license for the relevant service. You will need about 2 – 3Mbps for standard definition streaming and about 3 – 5 Mbps for HD streaming which are achieved almost everywhere in the UK with the Roam 5G system. Music streaming services like Spotify need a maximum of 1Mbps. How do I Install it? We would always recommend a professional installation, click the button below to put in your postcode or location and find installers closest to you. Find an Installer Alternatively, a competent DIY’er could install the Roam 5G system, for this you can refer to our Installation Video on YouTube or our written Maxview Roam 5G installation instructions here. If you are buying a new caravan or a second hand caravan you can mention to your dealer that you would like a Maxview Roam 5G installed and they may be able to do it for you. If they are not sure what it is then please ask them to contact us and we can advise them. If you don’t want or need a hole in your roof, we also offer a raiser mount kit, providing the flexibility to mount your antenna anywhere on your roof and putting the cable through an existing entry. Important: with the standard raiser bracket kit you will receive 2 extension cables, but the 4 x 4 antenna has 4 cables to extend so you will need to buy another pack which contains 2 extensions. Yes, extension cables can be purchased separately to allow a flexible mounting position to the router. They are available in 1m, 2m, 3m and 5m lengths. For the 5G 4 x 4 antenna you will need to buy 2 packs, each containing 2 cables, to fully extend the antenna’s cables.   Click here to see extension cables. What are the differences between the Roam, Roam X and Roam 5G? The main difference is the speed capability of the router. The Roam 5G is a CAT20 router which means maximum speeds are 3.1 gigabites per second compared to 150 megabytes per second on the CAT4 Roam. The other difference is the capability to handle multiple heavy users simultaneously. What if I already have a Roam Antenna Installed on my Roof? In this situation we can offer the Roam 5G Upgrade pack to upgrade to the more powerful router and the relevant accompanying accessories. If your antenna was made after January 2021 then it is compatible with 5G.  You can see this product here. What are the Main Technical Details I Need to Know? The Roam 5G router provides super high performance The antenna is 4 x 4 MiMo and compatible with all 5G frequency bands The router has 2 SIM slots 4 ethernet ports allowing additional wired devices CAT 20 LTE chip with download speeds of up to 3.1Gbps The antenna is omni directional, this means that no manual adjustment needed. The router has 2 WiFi outputs. 2.4Ghz for more range and slightly less speed, and 5Ghz for less range and more speed, perfect for many different applications Will it Work in Europe? Yes, it will work in Europe. The Roam works across the UK and Europe but this is dependent on data provider and contract. Due to Brexit there are some restrictions on how much data you can use with your UK sim card in Europe, we go into more detail about this in our SIM card article. Yes, absolutely. You will be able to connect to the WiFi connection with your smart devices in the same way you connect them to your router at home. It’s worth bearing in mind that the router will need to be continually powered for the WiFi connection to remain on, so if you are checking WiFi CCTV cameras then the router will need to be on also when you are not there. This may come down to what battery you have installed.
